Blurb & Synopsis

Tag Line: Fisticuffs - The art of fighting with the fists.

Blurb
Leading a double life is a talent that comes all too easy for Elizabeth Smith; one - drinking champagne celebrating her successes with her aristocratic - yet highly controlling family acquaintances, and another drinking Special Brew with her less noble associates in the depths of the urban jungle on the other side of town. However, when her life is knocked out of balance when her devoted crew become aware of her disciplined, middle-class existence, which way of life will she choose?

Lizzie is feared by many but known by few; her 'crew' are a group of passionate and loyal girls from the estate who are notorious for their affinity for violence. They view Lizzie as their first in command. However, when they learn of her home life and compliance to her parents' demands, they insist that Lizzie must stay true to herself and choose just one way of life. In order to do this, however, she must first learn who her true self really is.

How and where will you market you film? Online, Facebook, Twitter and any other social network that will make it advertised to the public and target audience. This is because are target audience is aimed at 16-25 years and this will help us to get more interest in our film.
The film and programs that i would advertise my film opening for and between would be films such as Adulthood, Green Street, Football Factory, Train Spotting Etc. So that it is promoted to our specific target audience.
I would advertise my film in the cinemas in the half term and the holidays as there will be a greater number of teenagers going to the cinema which will give are movie greater popularity.

Analysis of a students opening!

MELCS
-Mis-En-Scene
-Costume
The main character that is shown is a young teenage girl that is going to school/college she is in her own clothes that are formal which shows that she is in a 6th form or college. where as the unidentified character is wearing clothing that covers there identity which shows that they are not wanting the audience to know who they are and also it looks like they are linked to the female character that we are introduced to.

-Lighting
All the way through this film opening it is natural lighting or high key lighting i'm not sure if this is intentional.
The natural light shows you that these situations can occur at an time of the day and that you should be aware.

-Actors
The female actor is a student at a school/college she seems to like to be on her own and be in her own world which could suggest why this covered up male has targeted her. The male actor is very suspicious and and all of his movements are small and delicate and think this is because he does not want to be noticed by this female that we are introduced to. Her body language is timid and small she doesn't have much of a facial expression this connotes that she may be rather anti-social.

-Make up
The female actor wears heavy eye make up this connotes that the dark colours around her eyes could reflect the dark situation that she is in. There is no sign of a low cleanliness which shows that she may be well of. Also with the heavy make up this may connote that she may be trying to attract the opposite sex.

-Props
There are not many props used in this opening in my opinion they are kept to a minimum. There is the use of a mobile phone which i think is typical in a students opening as in any of the openings with this genre usually pretend to be on there phone and start to be followed. There is also the use of a cigarette but you don't  see who is smoking this may be a link to the male character that is following the female. Also the use of the photographs of the female which shows that this male character is stalking her.

-Setting
The setting is at a school which means that there is a lot of people that can be witnesses to what this male character is intending to do but with this it shows that he must have a link with the school for him being able to get in to the school. Having this setting shows that how dangerous the day to day sequence of going to school can be so dangerous.

MELCS
-Editing
There is the use of The cut this is where two things are simply put together to create a sequence.
There is also the use of the fade which i think is a good use to show the movement from one camera shot to the other.
There is the use of cross cutting as you watch the female and the male at different places at the same times which shows that they will eventually meet together at some point.
There is the use of the cut away this is the insertion of an event to fill in the gaps to create the mood and to fit in with the film.
In mt conclusion i think that these edits are all use brilliantly and i cant see many faults and it creates a great atmosphere.

MELCS
-Camera shots
There is a panning shot this is used to how the area that the opening is based in.
There is the long shot used to show her walking in to school .
There is a close up on her walking in showing that she is being watched.
There is also the use of the point of view shot this connotes that she is being watched through the blinds.

MELCS
-Sound
There is the use of non-diagetic sound all the way through there is no ambient sound or diagetic sound i think the use of this is great because it builds up the tension and suspense in the beginning which is what we are slightly trying to create in are opening but are will be more up beat a rocky.

CMINTS
-Characters
The female character that are shown is well dressed and in formal clothes which shows that she is in some sort of education. There isn't many character introduced in to the opening apart the female character that we assume is the main character and the hooded male.

-Iconography
There are a few sign that are unique such as-
The hooded male this shows that there must be some significant reasons to why he has not revealed who he is. This fits the genre crime as in a crime genre film the characters are all hooded and usually try to hide them selves to prevent them from getting in to trouble.

-Narration
There is a form of Non-linear narration used in this opening as it looks like some thing is going to happen to the female rather quickly and this opening scene may be a flash back.

-Theme
There is a theme i think i would strangely call it stalking? or being followed as you can see that this male is trying to contact the main character as he seems to appear where ever she is.

Enigma
There is a series of enigma such as-
Who is the male character?
Why does he want the female?
What is the connection between them?
And why all the secrecy?

Inspirational ideas!

My group have looked at plenty of film openings and we have taken a shine to this one. In the opening scene it is created by the use of Linear narration, Freeze frames and Titles. In are opening we are having narration over the top of the hole opening scene describing who the main character is and who her friends are and how she is associated with them. We are also containing freeze frames on the main characters when the narration is talking about them there will also be a title of there name that appears on the freeze frame and the person that played this character. As you can see the opening scene of trainspotting is like this but did already have ideas similar but we got the main ideas from this idea which has helped us come up with are final idea for are film opening.

about her social class and background/up bringing.

Stella,Jodie,Becky,Tiffany and Stacey-
-Working class.
-Aged 16. (social class D/E)
-Rough background.

This is Billie Blake she is playing the main actor(Elizabeth) in are film opening.
This character has a double life one of which is very proper and she has to be have
well mannered in front of her family But behind closed doors she acts like she has
a double as she has a second life and gets up to lots of different mischief. she is a
very out spoken girl and is the main leader in her crew!

I am playing a part of Elizabeth's friend Stella she is very outspoken and
influences Lizzy to do a lot of bad things that she was not bought up to do.
She likes to get involved in fights and to be the dominant one.

Jess Hordon is playing the character of Becky she is loud mouthed and
from a bad background like the other characters apart from Elizabeth.
Becky also likes to get in to trouble and to kick up a fuss just like the rest of them.

sophie Clarke plays the character of Tiffany who doesn't stand for any
trouble and has a bit of an attitude like the other characters that are played
she causes havoc and mischief and doesn't care about the consequences.

Jade Clarke is playing the character of Jodie she is just like
the others and loves to get into trouble with them.

The Rivals!

This is Ebony Daley who plays in the Rival gang.

Sarah Brown.

Vanessa Chow.

Kerry Green.

All of these people will play a part in are film opening but they will not have
much of a part they are there to create the mood of the fight.

Seasonal views on the genre crime

This is a clip from seasonal views of films and all of these contain parts of crime in all of these films. this shows that crime has a high rate to being watched and with this being are chosen genre it makes us feel like we have chosen the correct genre.

By viewing these it makes me think why are they so high and that they all must contain certain things that the target audience looks for in a crime genre film.

Target Audience Interveiws

We interviewed three different people to get there individual opinions on are chosen genre 'Drama' with a sub genre of 'Crime'.

The first we interviewed was a big lover of 'Crime' 'Dramas' she was you would say passionate about them she gave us a good insight about what you should put in a 'Crime' 'Drama' and what not to. She mentioned that she does not like to see lots of action like the use of guns and explosion but she likes it when you have to think about why they did it and who has done it.

The second person we interviewed was also rather in to are chosen genre. she explains how she enjoys to see a pack leader in the group to show dominance which is good that the target audience enjoy this because this was one are first ideas to have a main leader in it. Also she said that she likes to be a mixture of suspense and violence but she likes a mixture which is good because we are hoping to create this.

In the third interview we interviewed to people at once for the hope that there answers would bounce of them but we was not really able to get a lot of feedback of them as they are not as into 'Crime' 'Dramas' as much as we where and they were not able to give us the information we needed as they didn't explain why they was not into 'Crime' Dramas'.

In my conclusion we are going with are genre of 'Crime' as we have had brilliant feedback which has given are hole group plenty of confidence to add extras things into it.

The pitch

Idea 1- At the beginning we are filming the main character riding a horse from two different points it has a classic relaxing music in the background then the main character leans against a fence and lights up a fag with narration of her talking about her life. It then continues to then show us her double life as she has had a posh up bringing but she chooses to rebel. there is narration continuing through this also consists of an upbeat music as she walks to the front door. It then goes on to her introducing her friends every time she says her friends name it freezes on them hitting some one and this is the basic idea of are first idea.

Feed back- we got good feed back for this one saying that it is a good idea and that we should go for this one.

Idea 2- Idea two is a basic version of the first where it basically shows the true environment that a working class teenager class D/E has to live in and shows the impact on there life. This idea was not thought through a lot and we decided to scrap it.

Feed back- We didn't get much feed back as they was not keen on are ideas and think idea 1 would be produced better.

Box office data

Box Office Data

As you can see by looking at the information on 'Crime' films 'Inception' is ranked 1st this must be because it includes a lot of the stuff that this type of target audience aims for. i have been researching about this film to see what it includes. My summary on this film is that Dom Cobb the main actor is a skilled thief, and is the absolute best in the dangerous art of extraction, stealing valuable secrets from deep within the subconscious during dream state, when the mind is at its most vulnerable. Here are some views i found -
-Its and extremely ambitious, but well-crafted, story.
-The emotional stuff really slows it down.
There is also a lot of mentioning on how great the plot is and the use of props which we need to i#consider looking at.
I have also noticed that the top two ranking films are both made by the same company i was just thinking that this may link together maybe 'Warna Brothers' are better at creating a 'Crime Drama' genre movies. Also if you look at the film 'Lawless that is ranked 24th it males you wonder what didn't this film include that the others did.  In my conclusion after looking in to theses films i think you need to include a lot of enigma and violence to create a good crime film. my reason being is because the majority of the films all include these.

Target audience research

Target Audience Research

As you can see that the genre we are choosing to use 'Drama' with a sub Genre 'Crime' is rather popular as it is ranked 3rd with 55% of the general public saying they enjoy watching 'Drama'. My group think that it is good that we have chosen a genre with such a high percentage because we should statistically get more views and interest in are film opening than if we used a different Genre.

Although the statistics show that females aged over 35 from social class A/B prefer 'Drama' films, our target audience is working class teens because of our sub-genre of crime. We think that choosing a target audience for this genre will work effectively for the social class that we have chosen to aim it at as people in the working class will be able to relate situations shown like in many 'Crime Dramas' such as 'Green Street', 'Kidulthood', 'Adulthood'  Etc. All these films show how the day to day life runs for people that live in a different environment to the upper class people A/B.

As you can see that 19% of the public would class my chosen genre as there personal favorite which i think is rather good as the four genres above it are not significantly higher than the percentage that 'Drama' has been given. This shows that will be a good chance of a high interest in are film. There is still plenty that we need to research about it but i think will detailed research we are able to reach the quality/standard that are target audience is looking for in a 'Crime/Drama' film.

As you can see that this shows the percentage pf male, female and also social class that would class
'Drama' as there favorite. As you can see women 35+ again are saying that this is there most favorite genre with 30% telling us this however we have chosen a Sub-Genre 'Crime' which we think will lower the percentage and higher the percentage of male and females watching it at the age of <35 we also came to the conclusion that it shall lower the social class to D/E as people in this class can relate to these types of situations that we are thinking about  putting in the are film opening.
