Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

In my preliminary task i learnt about shot/reverse shot, match on action and the 180 degree rule. I discovered that you have to keep the camera on the same side of each character that you film.This helped me during the filming of our film opening. It taught me on what to do and what not to do whilst filming to create a successful film.

Easy/Hard?
I found the angle of the camera very easy i managed to get it correct the first time round which i was happy about. The thing i found hard about my preliminary task was using the tripod i was just not able to move the tripod in time for when the person walked past the camera it took me a long time to be able to do this but i eventually managed to get the hang of it.

Having this experience this helped me have a greater knowledge of the things that i found hard and i was successful in doing them first time round in the film opening. It also helped me with the angles for the use of close ups and mid-shots.

For my preliminary task i had to plan out a brief story board for it which helped me and gave me a good knowledge of what i need to include into the story board that i had to do for the main task. Also the scripting although i was provided with a script for the preliminary task it helped me use the same format to lay out my script. I also planned a shooting schedule to help me keep to a time limit for the filming and also a shot list to help me stick to the correct and planned shots that where needed at each point.

After filming what we needed we started of by choosing the clips we wanted to include and editing them and putting the clips in the right place. After this we included music than ran smoothly through out the opening that created tension and atmosphere for the fighting scenes. We then included the narration or the freeze frames this was a brief explanation of each of the characters. We then finally included the titles that where need such as the name of the film 'Fisticuffs' and the people that are starred in the film and the people that directed, produced it and did the sound.

The overall evaluation of this is that the preliminary task helped me alot with the main task as i learnt all the rules and shots with the preliminary task and i learnt from the mistakes that i made which meant that i did not make many errors in the main piece is i did no do the preliminary task first i do not think that the opening would be nearly as good as it is now.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

What technologies did you use throughout the three stages of this production?

I first used Blogger to create my blog to upload all of my recent media work. I found this process very easy to set up apart some minor issues with my email address but i successfully managed to create my blog. The filtering system at school made it rather impossible to get on to this website with out being in the media room. This made it hard to continue my work in school hours.

I used you tube to research and look at film openings and programs that have the same genre that we chose. Also whilst doing this before we chose our genre to help us decide on the one that we thought we should go for. Doing this research helped us successfully find out the correct information to create a film opening.With out being in the media room i was unable to use this website for information as it is blocked.


I also used Wikipedia to help me research and find out specific information about genres to help me get an incite of what each one includes and also to help me find out specific information about production company's and distributors. This website came in very handy and i was also to use this all hours on all systems.





I had never used Blogger and digital cameras before so being able to use these was a great experience and after a lot of use i began to develop a great knowledge of these.
Panasonic NV-G5500



We used this camera to film our film opening. We practiced using this camera and a tripod by creating a preliminary task that included a simple script. After using this for a few times i got the hang of it and was able to transfer my recordings on the computer and i was also able to learn how to use different functions.


Sony Vegas-
I began to use Sony Vegas to edit my preliminary task this helped me get the hang of the different techniques and formats i could put into my editing this helped me be able to use this for our film opening. After exploring this i was able to use brilliant transitions to make our film opening effective.

Technical Aspects-
Lighting- I found filming in the natural lighting rather difficult as one of the main scenes is set in the dark so trying to film in this lighting because the recordings was really dark and wasn't able to pick up the specific scenes that we need but after moving the camera around for a while we was able to find the correct lighting for the scene.
Sound-I found the sound very easy to do. We found uncopy right music and managed to edit it to fit the film opening. We then recorded narration and had the sound the camera picked up in the back ground i found this very easy after getting the hang of using the boom pole and syncing the music with the opening.

Evaluation Question 5

How did you attract/address you audience?



We interviewed various people to get their individual opinions about our chosen genre and their thoughts of what they think about that certain genre Crime. I found that Crime is a well loved genre from a very specific target audience. I interviewed various people ranging with different ages and found that they all look for the same thing in Crime Dramas. I found this good feedback so that i knew what to include into the film also they all disliked the same things so that we had a vague idea about what to try and avoid or include in our opening. We found that all the people we interviewed felt that in any film opening enigma is the key to attracting and keeping the audience's attention.

The questions we asked were;
- What is your favorite film drama?
- What do you like about the genres?
- Do you prefer a crime drama to focusing on violence or suspenseful story line?
- What sort of characters do you associate with as a main character in a crime drama film?
- In a opening for a crime drama what would stop you from carrying on and watching it?


In our research we also created target audience member profiles in order to find out key elements and opinions from the type of people our film may attract. In this process we found that brands they tend to prefer are those such as; Addidas, Paul's Boutique and Fred Perry - because of this we included brands such as Fred Perry, Helly Hanson, McKenzie and Nike because these are also synonymous with young working class people.

This helped us find out how to attract and address our audience. We figured that we should include every thing that the people we interviewed said that they liked seeing in Crime dramas.

We included violence and excited to keep the audience engaged and entertained as our results show this it what our audience look for in a Crime drama. We also included a dominant character of the group as this is proven to engage the audience too.

I would promote our film by advertising it within breaks in a film that is based on similar genres such as 'Kidulthood' i think this would attract a successful audience.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

who is the film aimed at and why?

Our film is aimed at females up to their mid thirties here is why...

 As you can see Drama is a very popular genre and the most popular age females aged 35 and over but because of our sub genre i think that it will be aimed at females of a younger age as people are actually in the situation these girls are in and they will be able to relate to them. The social class that we have chosen to aim it at as people in the working class will be able to relate situations shown like in many 'Crime Dramas' such as 'Green Street', 'Kidulthood', 'Adulthood'  Etc. All these films show how the day to day life runs for people that live in a different environment to the upper class people A/B..

Here you can see that drama is the third most popular in what genre people enjoy most to watch. This gave us a boost as all of this evidence so far was showing us that we are going to get a positive out come from the film.






    And here also you can see that the genre is rated
 4th most popular out of all of the genres which is a positive statistic.









Ethnicity
This film is aimed at all ethnicity as we have proved this as our film contains three different ethnic groups Black, Chinese and White. This shows social acceptance to a variety group which i think will open more doors to the target audience and will give our film a bigger popularity.

BBFC
We gave our film a rating of  the age of 15. This is because the film has a numerous events of imitable behavior such as drinking, smoking and also a lot of violence. There is also al ot of foal language included which can also be imitated by the younger generation which is why we have chosen to give it the classification of 15. This also fits our target audience for young females ranging from this age to the mid 30's.

Mainstream/niche?
As i have said i would have this film released on a independent cinema as the sub genre is not as popular as Drama. This means that our film would be a niche production because the sub genre is a smaller target audience.

Why don't you like Rom  Coms? Because i just find the lovey dovey rubbish boring and i am not kept entertained by the boring cheesy comedy with in it.

A film distributor is a company or an individual responsible for marketing of a film. The distributor may set the date the release date of a film and the method in which a film is to by exhibited or made available for viewing.

Films of my chosen Genre and distributors.
Kidulthood is distributed by revolver entertainment-

Revolver Entertainment is a marketing-lead, all rights film distribution company. Founded in 1997, the company has operations in both London and Los Angeles. As of 2012, they have teamed up with Picture house Cinemas to distribute a selected number of films.

Green Street is distributed by universal pictures-
Universal Pictures, is an American motion picture studio, owned by Comcast, and one of the six major movie studios. It is one of the longest-lived motion picture studios to be located outside of Hollywood. It is a division of American media conglomerate NBCUniversal.

Football Factory is distributed by momentum pictures-

Momentum Pictures is one of the leading independent motion picture distributors in the UK and Ireland and releases approximately 20 theatrical films a year, with several dtv releases.

Major distributor or independent?

I would say that our film would be distributed by a smaller independent distributor. I say this because after researching who crime films have been distributed by are small independent distributors and they seem to get plenty of publicity that they need so i think i would like the film 'Fisticuffs' to be distributed by Momentum because it was of the leading independent motion pictures distributors which means the film would get a good head start being presented to the public.

This film has been a great success considering it has been created on such a low budget. I have chosen to use this one as an example as the genre is Crime and that is our chosen genre.

Multiplex/Art house cinema?

My film would go to an independent art house cinema as the film is a niche market and i think this would promote the film to the audience correctly. The target audience is aimed at women aged from 15 to mid thirties and statistics have shown that the genre Drama with the sub genre of Crime is most popular with this type of target audience.

Marketing

I think the film should be advertised on YouTube when trigger words are used because the film is then being advertised the specific target audience that we need it to be advertised to. Also on specific channels such as channels that are known for action films and also in my opinion one that has often adverts so that the film is advertised of the audience.

Evaluation Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Age/Teens
The female teenager that is introduced in the first opening scene is shown as a perfect role model as she is well dressed sounds well spoken and performs a high skill of horse riding this does not usually meet the stereotypical teenager that you see.

You then see the change in her appearance and her actions as she introduces her friends. Her actions change as they are loud and aggressive. She seems to get in lots of fights when seems under threat and start to shout and scream aggressively  The appearance of her changes dramatically as she enters a different kind of class. Her clothing becomes baggy and revealing. This matches the stereotypical youth/teenager of today as many people feel threatened by the so called 'hoodies' and this is what we was trying to portray in our film.










Gender
Nearly 100% of the character that are seen in this film are females this challenges the genre of Crime Drama as you usually see males through out these. This does not meet the stereotypical character in a crime film as males are used for the aggressive behavior and violence where as we have challenged this and used females. This type of behavior is negative because of  all the violence. The one male that is used is presented as rough looking and is wearing similar clothing such as jumpers and joggers. This connotes that he is from a rough area or a lower class.

Social class
In scene 1 the social class that is introduced is upper class we portrayed this image by dressing the character in formal clothing and wearing no make up to show innocence to the audience. The main character has a good posture and is well spoken to. The setting also matches the class as the character is riding at a equestrian center this connotes money and a good up bringing.

In scene 2 the social class introduced is lower class and we portrayed this image by changing her appearance to wearing baggy clothing to hide who they are. The use of make up also got a lot heavier this is to show that she isn't as innocent as you think she is. The locations also change from a rural area to a urban setting. The main section of this scene is filmed in a park which matches the stereotypical teenager getting into trouble in a park.

 Ethnicity
In scene 2 three different types of ethnicity's are introduced Black British, Chinese British and White British this shows that the environment they are in accepts different ethnicity's and are multicultural and they all get into the same trouble and there is no racism.

conclusion
As a hole i think that our opening has a varied presentation of gender, social class, age and ethnicity. We have actors ranging from various ethnic groups and have produced an accurate representation of social class from A/B to D/E.

evaluation Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions or real media products?

The basic conventions of a film opening are titles, the introduction of the main character, credits, shots, sounds ,narration some times Linear and non-linear etc. you need to include all of these to create a basic film opening containing the correct information.

The conventions for my genre are-
sound- It would be up beat and fast paced.
Credits- Big bold but simple.
Shots- Close ups, establishing shots, Mid shots, Close ups.
Narration-Linear and Non-linear.

I believe that i have used all of these conventions in our film opening.
The main character is introduced. She is introduced by narration this tell us what she is like and what she gets up to. I think this helps the audience understand what she is like and gives you a instant idea on what is going to be involved in the opening. The opening titles in the first scene are smart this matches the posh environment that is introduced in the opening scene. They then turn big and bold when the environment changes and she is in her double life this matches the conventions of the genre 'Crime' as in crime films every thing is big bold and shocking so we tried to match that using the titles. We use freeze frames in our opening to this is used when the camera is on her friends it will freeze with big bold letters spelling her their name. Lizzy will well be talking about them and what they are like using narration. We decided to use this as you see in a lot of 'Crime' films you see this used and i think it helps the audience understand each character. This technique is also used in the film 'Football Factory' also 'St trinians. The music is soft and classical at the beginning this challenges the conventions of crime films the music then becomes upbeat and rocky to match the double life.

Editing-We used jump cuts through out the fight this shows the passing of time we thought of using this after watching the film 'Green Street' to show the passing of time and to show that the duration of the fight lasts for a long time.
Sound-The sound is up beat and fast just like it is in the film 'Football Factory' this fits in with the suspense of the fight and it helps create a mood for the fighting and the anger.
Mis-en-Scene-
Costume- the characters are dressed in hoodies joggers and trainers this matches the stereotypical 'Chav' like in a lot of crime films such as 'Greenstreet'.

















Lighting-In the opening scene high key lighting is used for the horse riding to match the convention of a posh setting the lighting is then natural and high key lighting in the second scene. The high key lighting works very well with the fighting scene as it is a fighting scene and it works as it shows that they get up to mischeif as it gets late like a lot of 'Crime' films such as 'Green street' and 'Kidulthood'.

Actors- The actors all act big bold and loud this matches the stereotypical character in a 'Crime' film.

Make up- The make up is heavy this matches the girls that are involved in the crime films such as 'Kidulthood.










Props- We used a vodka bottle to show the use of alcohol in these types of areas this matches the alcohol abuse that is shown in many crime films.

Setting- For scene is set at a horse riding equestrian this matches the stereotypical posh background and the other scene is set in the park this is like 'Kidulthood' as i have mentioned as they hanf around in these typical areas.
